Collylands

River Spirit, Alloa

One of the commissions for the town of Alloa in Clackmannanshire, central Scotland, was installed at the start of June on the Collylands roundabout. Given the title River Spirit she has received considerable praise from local residents and has become a popular landmark.

The commission for Satation Square in the town centre is almost complete, and awaits the completion of site groundworks prior to installation later in the summer.

Confirmation has been given to commence work on the third sculpture in the series for the Alloa area, and the artwork, a partner for the “River Spirit” piece will be sited on Muirside roundabout. Installation is proposed for late autumn.

Mario

Fillignano, Italy

John Coia, from Collemacchia, Italy has contacted Andy to ask that he puts The Spirit of the Voice on the website! Made during a one month residency in Filignano in 2003, the sculpture sits on a roundabout in this beautiful mountain town in central Italy. It celebrates the life of Mario Lanza, the legendary opera singer whose family originated in the town. It is a one-and-a-half times life-size linear steel sculpture, and was fabricated with basic hand tools in the searing heat of an Italian summer. The experience was an unforgettable taste of fantastic Italian hospitality which Andy still remembers fondly.

Ciao tutti!
