Swordsmen
Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum
This unusual commission saw Andy working with the conservators of Kelvingrove Museum’s arms & armour collection. They were keen to mount some of the most valuable weaponry in an innovative and eye-catching display. They asked Andy to create the series of six duellists in his trademark linear steel technique, in essence creating three-dimensional sketches of the combatants.
Each figure is sculpted in the appropriate costume corresponding to the historical era of the sword, and dynamically posed as though wielding the weapons in the distinctive movements and gestures associated with the fighting style.
They are made of powder coated steel bars and collectively create a very striking feature in the recently renovated museum, which has proved immensely popular with visitors.
