Chiron

New South Wales

Another of Andy's projects in Australia is this mythological figure of a centaur. This sculpture was commissioned by Mr. John Fairfax and gifted to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, and is sited outside their premises within the Sydney Olympic Stadium complex at Homebush, NSW. The image of the centaur repsonds to the brief of "man and beast", and symbolises the centaur Chiron, who was the teacher of Achilles.

Another sculpture in galvanized steel bars, this piece was fabricated in Scotland and freighted to site in Australia, and stands approximately 3 metres high at the head. It could be seen as one of a series of mythological artworks by Andy based on an equestrian theme.

Equus Aqua is another in this theme, based on the form of a "hippocampus", and was made for the Casuarina Sculpture Walk in north NSW, where it was the recipient of one of the purchase prizes in the 2004 exhibition. It stands 2.2 metres high at the head and is approximately 4.5 metres long.

The Drumchapel Pegasus continues the theme, and is mounted on a rooftop of a housing project in north Glasgow.
