Aqua Solaire

Queensland • 2004

This sculpture was made for the annual "Swell" sculpture exhibition of 2004, at Currumbin Beach in S.E. Queensland. Sited on top of the prominent rock and towering above the Currumbin Surf Club, Aqua Solaire was Andy's response to the theme of tides, time and the ocean. The figure is made in the style of a classical terminus sculpture: a human torso rising from and architectural column, and she holds the sun and the moon in her outstretched arms.

She is made of galvanized steel bars, and stands 6 metres tall. The sculpture was purchased by Stockland, a major Australian property developer, and was installed as an iconic landmark atop "The Observatory", a new residential development at Reedy Creek on the Gold Coast hinterland.

Industry & Commerce

This matching pair of sculptures at City Park, in the east end of Glasgow, also conform to the "terminus" as a sculptural motif. "Industry & Commerce" are mounted at the entrance to a business centre, formerly an Art Deco style factory, and are complimented by a 26 metre long cold cast aluminium relief panel inside the lobby of the building.
